Nintendo NES PI

My first hardware project! A nintendo NES running nearly every modern emulators!

This is what I consider as my first hardware project. I was interested in the RaspBerry PI B+, so I bought one. I always loved retro gaming! Hence the inspiration for this project.

I bought an empty NES case on Ebay and with some tools, I began to sculpt the case. It was my first experience and I struggled a lot with the design and space organisation inside the case. Eventually I actually fitted everything inside and began to script. I took me approximately 25Hrs to script everything and sculpt the case. I based this project on retropie. A petrockblog project (link below). When everything was installed and configured, I disassembled a TFT screen bought over the internet, plugged everything together and turned it on. I also forgot to mention the coding work. It was quiet straight forward, mainly bash scripting and manipulating python scripts to get every components working.

The NES PI had a lot of components:

  • Small TFT screen with speakers
  • USB HUB
  • Flat HDMI cable
  • Raspberry PI B+
  • Power cable

This was a fairly easy project, it was my first introduction to the hardware environment and it was just the first of many bigger projects!

The NES could run multiple emulators.
